Shalom Brune-Franklin Joins Oscar Isaac in Netflix’s Vegas-Set Drama Series ‘The Roman’

Shalom Brune-Franklin is the latest additions to The Roman, Netflix’s Las Vegas-set drama series headlined by Oscar Isaac.

The eight-episode hour-long drama is set in present-day Las Vegas, a modernized but still dangerous version of the Strip. At the center of it all is Robert “Bobby Red” Redman (Isaac), the president of the hottest hotel casino in town, who must make some long-odds moves to secure his position and seize more control as threats close in around him.

Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, David Costabile, and recently added Jimmy O. Yang also star in the series.

Brune-Franklin will play Jessica Christine “JC” Griffin, described as an alert and ambitious rising star at the casino who serves as a vital host and fixer, managing the whims of high rollers while harboring her own big plans for the future.

Gilpin plays Marla Blake, Bobby’s formidable wife and a brilliant, highly connected lawyer who knows how to navigate the town’s darkest corners just as well as her husband. Baldwin plays Paul “Primo” Clark, a legendary and flint-eyed business technician who serves as the longtime chairman of the organization. A surrogate father figure to Bobby, Primo is not above letting his protégés fight for his favor.

Costabile plays Bill Saverick, the operator of a rival casino and a longtime associate of Bobby’s who frequently finds himself caught between loyalty to his friend and the town’s ruthless business maneuvers. Yang plays Rich Tzu, a sophisticated, Eton-educated executive who serves as a rival to Isaac’s protagonist, Bobby.

The Roman is created and showrun by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the duo behind Billions and Super Pumped, whose storytelling instincts around gambling and power date back to Rounders and Ocean’s Thirteen. JC Chandor is set to direct the first two episodes. Martin Scorsese executive produces for Sikelia Productions alongside Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, Paul Schiff, Beth Schacter, Isaac and Kerry Orent as co-executive producer.

Brune-Franklin currently stars in HBO’s Dune: Prophecy, which is heading into its second season, and is also known for her work in Baby Reindeer and The Girlfriend. Yang is coming off the release of his stand-up special Finally Home, taped during a sold-out arena run in his hometown of Hong Kong. He recently led Hulu’s Interior Chinatown and stars in Vera Miao’s horror drama Rock Springs, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
