Ayesha Curry will star in Second Chance Holiday, a Roku Original holiday rom-com premiering free on The Roku Channel November 5, marking her first leading role in a feature film. The film is part of Roku’s expanding holiday slate, releasing alongside The Holiday Spark, starring Joey Graziadei in his own feature film debut alongside Jamie Chung.
Curry plays Chelsey Banks, a dating expert determined to break her self-described “curse” of getting dumped every holiday season, only to find herself reunited with her high school boyfriend, played by Matthew Daddario, leaving her to wonder whether her bad luck has actually been the universe steering her back to her first love all along. Directed by Maxwell McGuire and written by Erin Muroski, the film also stars Dennis Andres and Arlene Duncan, and is produced by Muse Entertainment in association with Motion Entertainment, a WPP Media company.
Curry’s path to this role traces back further than her current public profile as an entrepreneur and Steph Curry’s wife suggests. She acted as a child, appearing in small roles on Hannah Montana, Gary Unmarried, and Good Luck Charlie, before stepping back into acting more recently with A Black Lady Sketch Show and Netflix’s Irish Wish opposite Lindsay Lohan and Joy to the World in 2024. Curry called the role of Chelsey “fun” and “heartfelt,” saying she fell in love with the character while filming and hopes audiences do too.
Roku’s holiday originals have performed consistently well since the format launched in 2024, with every holiday rom-com the platform has released ranking in the top 10 among all Roku Channel on-demand titles by unique views during its opening month, including Chef’s Kiss and Merry Little Mystery, both of which hit number one. Brian Tannenbaum, Roku’s head of Originals, said the holiday season remains one of the platform’s biggest moments of the year, positioning both new films as an extension of that proven demand.
With Curry stepping into her first lead role inside a genre format Roku has already turned into a reliable hit-maker, Second Chance Holiday arrives with built-in audience expectations the platform has spent the past two years establishing on its own terms.
