Prime Video has released the official trailer for Ballard, the newest addition to the Bosch universe, led by Maggie Q and set to premiere globally on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, the 10-episode crime drama follows LAPD Detective Renée Ballard as she spearheads a new division tasked with solving the city’s most challenging cold cases.
The series boasts an ensemble cast that includes Courtney Taylor, John Carroll Lynch, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, Ricardo Chavira, Noah Bean, Alain Uy, and Hector Hugo. Titus Welliver also returns as Harry Bosch, continuing his role from the original Bosch series and Bosch: Legacy.
Set within the same gritty Los Angeles backdrop as its predecessors, Ballard introduces viewers to a reimagined LAPD, where Ballard has been assigned to lead the department’s newly formed but severely underfunded cold case unit. As she begins to peel back decades of unsolved crimes—including a string of serial killings and the murder of an unidentified John Doe—Ballard uncovers a disturbing conspiracy that leads straight into the heart of the department she works for.
Ballard’s team includes Samira Parker (Courtney Taylor), a tough and impulsive woman with a complicated relationship to law enforcement. John Carroll Lynch plays Thomas Laffont, Ballard’s former partner and a skilled interrogator who returns to support the unit. Michael Mosley portrays Ted Rawls, a reserve officer assigned to the unit to monitor its progress, while Rebecca Field plays Colleen Hatteras, an enthusiastic volunteer who believes her intuition can help solve cases.
Victoria Moroles appears as Martina Castro, an ambitious legal intern eager to prove herself. Amy Hill takes on the role of Tutu, Ballard’s vibrant and loving grandmother. Ricardo Chavira plays Detective Robert Olivas, a respected officer with a complex history with Ballard. Noah Bean portrays Councilman Jake Pearlman, a politician motivated to support the unit to solve his sister’s murder. Alain Uy plays Nelson Hastings, a strategic political ally of Pearlman. Rounding out the cast is Hector Hugo as Captain Berchem, the officer who took a chance on Ballard and continues to support her leadership.
Executive producers for Ballard include Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, Trish Hofmann, Jet Wilkinson, and Melissa Aouate. Co-executive producers are Jasmine Russ for Fabel Entertainment, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Trey Batchelor, and Theresa Snider for Hieronymus Pictures.
Building on the legacy of Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, Ballard promises a new chapter of high-stakes investigations, institutional conflict, and human stories grounded in justice, memory, and the pursuit of truth.
