Barry Jenkins and Leonardo DiCaprio team up for feature adaptation of Virunga documentary.
Barry Jenkins and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up for a feature adaptation of the Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga.

Orlando von Einsiedel wrote and directed the 2014 documentary. It tells the story of four park rangers in Democratic Republic of Congo fighting to protect the Virunga National Park and the world’s last mountain gorillas.

Jenkins will pen Virunga and DiCaprio, who served as an executive producer on the documentary, is producing the project with his Appian Way partners Jennifer Davisson and Phillip Watson. Joanna Natasegara for London-based Violet Films will also produce the project. von Einsiedel will serve as exec producer.

Netflix has exclusive rights to the documentary, and will produce the feature film as well.
