Fox released the full trailer for its Baywatch reboot, confirming a January 2027 premiere. The three-minute clip opens with Stephen Amell’s Hobie Buchannon, now a Baywatch Captain, leading a rescue after a plane collides with a parasail, setting the tone for a series built around his father Mitch’s legacy and the surprise arrival of his daughter Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin, who’s determined to become a lifeguard herself.
The reboot revives a franchise that, at its 1989 peak, was the most-watched show in the world, airing in more than 200 countries and helping launch the careers of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth, and Carmen Electra. A 2017 feature film reboot starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron underperformed, making this television relaunch Fox’s attempt to rebuild the property for a new audience rather than repeat that earlier misstep. The series was picked up for a 12-episode order in September 2025, followed by an open casting call and spring production in Los Angeles.
The new ensemble includes Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader in series regular roles, with Livvy Dunne making her acting debut and David Chokachi reprising his original role as Cody Madison. Hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion also appears in the trailer in a guest capacity, a crossover casting choice that continues a broader pattern of major music artists taking on screen cameos in high-visibility network revivals to drive cultural conversation around a premiere. For a franchise now rebuilding its cast from scratch after a single legacy actor’s return, the mix of a soap opera veteran, a TikTok-era casting choice in Beck, and a music crossover appearance reflects how networks are currently assembling ensembles for reboots aimed at pulling in audiences across generations and platforms at once.
Baywatch is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, with Matt Nix serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz. McG directed the premiere episode. The cast and showrunner have also used the show’s promotional run at MIPCOM to highlight the economic benefits of shooting in Los Angeles.
