The streaming giant Netflix saw a shake-up in its top charts for the week of July 1-7, with “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” and “Supacell” leading the pack in films and TV series, respectively.

The highly anticipated return of Eddie Murphy in ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ has rocketed to the top of Netflix’s English-language films list for the week of July 1-7. Garnering an impressive 41 million views in just five days, this marks a triumphant comeback for the beloved action-comedy franchise.

Directed by Mark Molloy, ‘Axel F’ sees Murphy reprising his iconic role as Detective Axel Foley, nearly 30 years after ‘Beverly Hills Cop III.’ The plot follows Foley as he returns to Beverly Hills to investigate the death of a long-time confidant. When his estranged daughter’s (Taylour Paige) life is threatened, Foley teams up with her, along with old friends Lt. Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and Sgt. John Taggart (John Ashton), and new partner played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt to uncover a conspiracy within the Beverly Hills Police Department. The cast also includes Kevin Bacon, Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Mark Pellegrino.

Following closely behind, ‘A Family Affair’ starring Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, held strong with 31.9 million views, up from 26.8 million the previous week. The romantic comedy has been well-received, maintaining its position as the second most-watched film. Jessica Alba’s action-thriller ‘Trigger Warning’ secured the third spot with 8 million views.

In the realm of TV series, the British sci-fi drama ‘Supacell,’ created by Rapman, claimed the top position on the English-language TV list. After debuting the week before at No. 2 with 6.4 million views, the series, attracted 11.8 million views, nearly doubling its debut week performance.

Set in South London, ‘Supacell’ tells the story of a group of individuals who suddenly develop superpowers with no clear connection between them except for the fact that they are all Black. As they navigate their new abilities and the challenges they bring to their everyday lives, one man must unite them to protect the one he loves while evading powerful agents aware of their powers. The series stars Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Adelayo Adedayo, Calvin Demba, Josh Tedeku, Rayxia Ojo, and Giacomo Mancini.

Meanwhile, ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3, with its intricate romantic plotlines, remained popular, securing fourth place with 4 million views. This season, focusing on the relationship between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, has now accumulated 95.8 million views in its first 53 days, climbing Netflix’s most popular TV series list.

Other notable entries in the top ten include ‘The Man With 100 Kids,’ a documentary debuting with 6.6 million views, and ‘Worst Roommate Ever’ Season 2, which garnered 5.4 million views. The real estate series ‘Owning Manhattan’ and the competition series ‘The Mole’ Season 2 also made significant debuts.

Netflix’s non-English titles also saw impressive viewership, with the French thriller ‘Under Paris’ leading the films list with 3.6 million views, followed by the Argentine romance ‘Goyo’ and the Indian drama ‘Maharaj.’ On the non-English TV list, the Spanish crime drama ‘Gangs of Galicia’ held onto the top spot.

As Netflix continues to release a diverse array of content, ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ and ‘Supacell’ have clearly captivated audiences, dominating the streaming platform’s charts and setting the stage for continued success in the coming weeks.
