Lamorne Morris Joins ‘Spider-Noir’ Series on Prime Video, Alongside Nicolas Cage

Lamorne Morris to Star Opposite Nicolas Cage in Live-Action Spider-Noir Series

Lamorne Morris has been cast as a series regular in the upcoming live-action series Spider-Noir, alongside Nicolas Cage. The series, based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, will air on MGM+ and Prime Video. Initially titled Noir, the show has been renamed to emphasize its connection to the Spider-Man universe. Morris will portray Robbie Robertson, a dedicated journalist in 1930s New York.

The series, produced by Sony Pictures TV, is helmed by executive producers and co-showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot. It follows an aging and disillusioned private investigator, played by Cage, who must confront his past as the city’s sole superhero. The show is set in a noir-inspired version of 1930s New York, blending the gritty aesthetics of the era with the iconic superhero narrative.

Morris’ character, Robbie Robertson, is a driven and hard-working journalist facing the challenges of being a black professional in 1930s New York. Determined to succeed, he takes on risky stories that others avoid, driven by a need to make a name for himself and earn a living. This portrayal adds depth to the historical context of the show, highlighting the societal struggles of the time.

Emmy winner Harry Bradbeer will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. The series is developed by Uziel and Lightfoot in collaboration with the creative team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Spider-Noir will debut on MGM+ in the U.S. and globally on Prime Video in over 240 countries.

Nicolas Cage, who voiced Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will reprise his role in the live-action series. This marks Cage’s first major scripted TV project since his appearance in the 1981 pilot The Best of Times. In a recent interview, Cage revealed that the series would consist of eight 45-minute episodes, equating to the length of four feature films.

Robbie Robertson is a significant character in Marvel Comics, first appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #51 in 1967. Created by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., Robertson is one of the first black characters in comics to play a serious supporting role. He is depicted as a principled journalist and editor at the Daily Bugle, often serving as a mentor to Peter Parker. Robertson’s character has appeared in various Spider-Man adaptations, including the 1990s animated series and the recent Spider-Man video games.

Morris, known for his roles in Fox’s New Girl and Hulu’s Woke, recently appeared in the fifth season of FX’s anthology series Fargo. He was also cast in the upcoming Sony Pictures movie SNL 1975 as original Saturday Night Live cast member Garret Morris. Additionally, Morris will have a recurring role in the second season of Netflix’s comedy series Unstable.
