History has been made . For the first time ever, two Black actresses have been nominated for Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series in the same year. Karla Mosley and Tamara Tunie, both of CBS’s Beyond the Gates, are only the third and fourth Black actresses ever nominated in the category. Debbi Morgan was previously nominated three times, in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and Mishael Morgan made history in 2022 when she became the first Black woman to win the category for her role on The Young and the Restless.
Beyond the Gates did not stop there. The CBS soap earned 15 total nominations in its awards debut, making it the second most nominated show of the year behind The Young and the Restless, which leads with 18. General Hospital follows with 13 nominations and Days of Our Lives rounds out the drama series nominees with eight. One notable absence from the ballot was Clifton Davis, who plays patriarch Vernon Dupree, making his snub in the Lead Actor category one of the more surprising omissions of the morning.
