Rosario Dawson and Lamorne Morris are the latest additions to the cast of The Girlfriend, joining previously announced stars Meghann Fahy and Glenn Howerton.
Natalie Morales is directing from a script by Howerton and Rich Appel (Family Guy). Dawson joins as a co-lead, playing Eve, a woman who gives up her perfect New York City life and moves to Alabama for her husband Elliot’s dream job. Isolated, friendless and unhappy in her new surroundings, Eve becomes the unwitting subject of her husband’s well-meaning but misguided solution: he secretly hires an escort, played by Fahy, to become her new best friend.
Joshua Jackson, Stephen Root and Edi Patterson have also come aboard the film, which is currently in production. Morris most recently starred in Spider-Noir and Dawson leads Ahsoka, which season 2 should be out in 2027.
The film is produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine for 21 Laps, alongside Jill Howerton and Glenn Howerton from Zoe Knife Productions, Rich Appel from Persons Unknown, Guy Danella and Nick Spicer from XYZ Films, Richard Alan Reid from BuzzFeed Studios and Lee Kim. XYZ Films is financing and producing in association with BuzzFeed Studios, with XYZ handling global sales and WME co-repping domestic.
