Apple Original Films Sets Brad Pitt, Damson Idris' Formula 1 Movie for Summer 2025 Global Release

Apple Original Films is gearing up for its sixth major theatrical release by dating Joseph Kosinski’s Formula 1 movie. While the which stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris still has no name, it does have a worldwide release date: June 27, 2025. Warner Bros. has secured distribution rights for both domestic and international markets.

In the film, Pitt portrays a former racing driver making a comeback to Formula 1, alongside Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional racing team. The ensemble cast also includes Sarah Niles, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo.

The decision follows Apple’s acquisition of the Formula 1 project for a substantial sum, estimated between $130 million and $140 million, prior to any above-the-line expenditures. This move underscores Apple’s commitment to premium original content, akin to recent high-profile releases such as Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Sony’s “Napoleon.”

Internationally, the film is slated for release on June 25, 2025, with select screenings planned in IMAX theaters. Produced in partnership with Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo Films, the movie was shot on location during Formula 1 Grand Prix events, adding an authentic backdrop to its narrative.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” the project is backed by Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment and Apple’s ambitious push into cinematic storytelling. With its immersive approach to the high-stakes world of Formula 1, the film aims to captivate audiences globally while solidifying Apple’s standing in the competitive landscape of theatrical releases.
