Get ready for chills of a different kind. Horror fans who are usually scared by creepy crawlies or jump scares might want to look away for this one. A new trailer and poster have been revealed for “Abruptio,” a horror movie unlike any many others – it’s entirely made with puppets!
Directed by Evan Marlowe, the film boasts an impressive voice cast including comedy and horror heavyweights. Jordan Peele (“Get Out,” “Us”) joins forces with genre legend Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger himself from “A Nightmare on Elm Street”) and the late Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding from “House of 1000 Corpses”) in his final role.
James Marsters, Christopher McDonald, Rich Fulcher, Hana Mae Lee, Ross King, Carole Ruggier, Patrick Cavanaugh, and Kerry Marlowe to round out the puppet cast.
The synopsis sounds like a classic horror setup with a twist: Les Hackel (voiced by Marsters) wakes up to find a bomb strapped to his neck. To survive, he’s forced to commit terrible acts while desperately searching for the puppet master behind his misfortune.
While the story might be familiar, the use of puppets adds a whole new layer of unsettling weirdness. The trailer features some gory moments despite the felt characters, so be prepared for some puppet dismemberment alongside the chills.
The film is produced by Kerry Marlowe, Thomas Zambeck, and Brian Katz.
“Abruptio” isn’t Peele’s next directorial project, but it’s a great chance to hear him in a different kind of horror role. While he dated his fourth directorial film, fans can catch Peele’s voice talents in “Abruptio” hitting theaters September 27th, 2024.
