Brandy and Paolo Montalban Reunite in Descendants: The Rise of Red

Disney has released a teaser for the upcoming movie Descendants: The Rise of Red, featuring Brandy as Cinderella and Paolo Montalban as King Charming.

This marks the second time Brandy has played the iconic character, with Montalban also reprising his role from the 1997 television special.

In the teaser, Brandy and Montalban introduce their characters and can be seen having fun on set, surrounded by the film crew. The upcoming Descendants movie, Descendants: The Rise of Red, is the latest installment of the Descendants franchise.

The Descendants franchise, which is known for featuring the children of Disney villains. In this movie, Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, teams up with Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella, to travel back in time and undo a traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Brandy as Cinderella, China Anne McClain as Uma, Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, and Joshua Colley as Hook.

The movie is directed by Jennifer Phang and written by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer, and will be released on Disney+, although no premiere date has been announced yet.

The first time Brandy and Paolo connected was in the 1997 television special, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. It was a remake of the classic fairy tale starring Brandy as Cinderella, Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother, and Paolo Montalban as Prince Charming. It was the first time a Black actress had played the role of Cinderella on screen, making it a significant cultural moment. The special also featured a diverse cast, including Whoopi Goldberg, Bernadette Peters, and Jason Alexander. The music was written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and the special won an Emmy award for Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program.
