Amazon MGM Studios is bringing the beloved Charlie Bone children’s/YA fantasy novels by British author Jenny Nimmo to life with a newly ordered pilot. The ten-book series, spanning 2002-2010, includes a prequel trilogy and two follow-up books.
Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Carmen Ejogo (The Penguin), Emma Sidi (Starstruck), and a talented ensemble, including newcomers like Cory McClane, are currently filming the untitled pilot in the UK. The project is being shepherded by UK-US production and management firm 42. This adaptation promises to stay true to the novels’ essence while introducing a fresh perspective, aging up the characters for a YA audience.
The novels chronicle the journey of Charlie Bone, a misunderstood kid haunted by ‘The Noise’ since his father’s mysterious death. Constantly labeled a problem, Charlie finds his last chance at Bloor’s Academy, a school for challenging teenagers. Dr. Bloor (Fiennes), the school’s visionary principal, views Charlie’s quirks as untapped superpowers. The narrative weaves through friendships, crushes, hormones, and a dangerous conspiracy within the establishment.
Orlando Norman, Beth Alsbury, Lewis Brophy, Giulia Be, Olivia-Mai Barrett, and Fisayo Akinade star in the series. Newcomer Cory McClane will take on the pivotal role of stepping into the shoes of the central character, Charlie Bone.
The pilot is in capable hands with EPs Rory Aitken and Eleanor Moran for 42, writer-EP Max Gill, and director-EP Toby MacDonald. Miriam Brent joins as Co-EP, while Roopesh Parekh (Willow) takes on the role of producer.
As the production unfolds, fans eagerly anticipate the on-screen magic that this stellar cast and crew will undoubtedly bring to the beloved world of Charlie Bone. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting venture into the realm of fantasy and adventure.
