CBS Potentially Expanding ‘Fire Country’ Universe With Second Spinoff, A Medical Drama

CBS is continuing to build out its growing Edgewater universe, with a new medical drama in early development that would become the latest spinoff within the expanding franchise centered around Fire Country and Sheriff Country.

The untitled series—reportedly nicknamed “Med Country”—would follow a medical team operating in the same fictional Northern California town of Edgewater, further deepening the interconnected world already built around firefighters and law enforcement.

According to reports, the project is still in very early development and has not yet been formally pitched to CBS or CBS Studios. Because of its nascent stage, a writer has not yet been attached.

The proposed spinoff is expected to continue the franchise’s established crossover strategy, with plans to potentially introduce a lead character in Season 2 of Sheriff Country, mirroring how previous characters have been planted across the universe before launching their own series.

Executive producers on the potential project include Sheriff Country showrunner Matt Lopez, Fire Country co-creators Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, and Tony Phelan, as well as Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

If greenlit, the medical drama would mark CBS’ latest effort to expand the successful franchise, which has already become one of the network’s key universe-building properties alongside titles like NCIS, FBI, and CSI.

The move also comes as CBS currently does not have a medical drama on its slate following the cancellation of Watson.
