Chris Rock is set to make history as the first person and comedian to perform live on Netflix.
The streaming is giving live programming a chance a starting with the legendary comedian, writer, director, and actor’s newest comedy special. The special will stream live, globally, in early 2023. Additional details are expected to be shared at a later date.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” Robbie Praw, Netflix’s vp stand-up and comedy formats, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”
Netflix has already hosted a live in-person comedy event, Netflix is a Joke: The Festival, which took place this past spring. And featured Rock alongside Dave Chappelle, but Rock’s special takes Netflix’s live events a step further by being streamed to subscribers. With the success of the event could signal a significant new path for Netflix.

Rock’s last comedy special for Netflix was 2018’s Chris Rock: Tamborine.
