Prime Video is bringing a heartfelt new comedy series to screens with Clean Slate, starring Emmy-nominated actress Laverne Cox and comedy legend George Wallace. Set to debut all eight episodes on Thursday, February 6, 2025, the series will stream exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories.
The story centers on Harry Slate (Wallace), an old-school Alabama car wash owner who is suddenly reunited with his estranged child after 17 years. But instead of the son he once knew, Harry is met by Desiree Slate (Cox), a proud trans woman returning home after her New York City art gallery closes. Now under the same roof, father and daughter must navigate their complex relationship while unpacking old wounds, clashing over generational and cultural differences, and finding moments of humor along the way.
Joining Cox and Wallace are Telma Hopkins as Harry’s opinionated sister Ella, D.K. Uzoukwu as Louis, Desiree’s closeted best friend and the town’s choir director, Jay Wilkison as Mack, Harry’s employee and a single dad, and Norah Murphy as Mack’s precocious 10-year-old daughter, Opal.
The series comes from creators Laverne Cox, George Wallace, and Dan Ewen and serves as one of the final projects from the legendary Norman Lear, who passed away in December 2023 at age 101. Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, the series also features Lear and longtime collaborator Brent Miller as executive producers. Ewen and Simran Baidwan serve as co-showrunners.
The trailer highlights the humor and heart at the core of Clean Slate. From Harry’s clumsy attempts to embrace Desiree’s identity to her hilarious jabs at his outdated ways, the series blends sharp comedy with meaningful moments. Whether Desiree is introducing a “pronoun jar” to hold her father accountable or redecorating her childhood home, their journey feels real, messy, and full of love.
Clean Slate premieres February 6, 2025, on Prime Video. Save the date and get ready to laugh, reflect, and maybe even shed a tear.
