Colman Domingo Cast as Joe Jackson in Michael Jackson Biopic

Fresh off his first Oscar nomination, Colman Domingo has been announced to portray Joe Jackson, the father of Michael Jackson, in the upcoming biopic “Michael.” This casting follows the news that Jaafar Jackson, the King of Pop’s real-life nephew, will play Michael, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi depicting the singer during his early days.

Domingo expressed excitement about working with Jaafar, stating, “Jermaine Jackson’s son is playing Michael, and he is breathtaking.” As a best actor nominee for his role in “Rustin,” Domingo brings undeniable talent to his portrayal of Joe Jackson, a complex figure in Michael Jackson’s legacy.

Graham King, the producer, praised Domingo’s screen presence, emphasizing his ability to deeply inhabit characters. Antoine Fuqua, the director, highlighted Domingo’s range and passion for portraying the multifaceted Joe Jackson.

The biopic, penned by 3-time Oscar nominee John Logan, “Michael” aims to portray the King of Pop’s life, triumphs, and tragedies. The film is a collaboration with the Michael Jackson estate.

It began production on January 22, as shared by Jaafar on Instagram and is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, with Lionsgate handling domestic distribution and Universal Pictures International overseeing international territories, excluding Japan.

Colman Domingo’s busy 2024 includes executive producing the horror movie “It’s What’s Inside” and starring in films like “Drive-Away Dolls” and “Sing Sing.”
