A new YA drama is sailing onto Netflix next month. The streamer has released the official trailer for Crew Girl, a coming-of-age sports drama following an elite East Coast prep school teenager navigating the high-pressure world of competitive rowing.
The trailer introduces 16-year-old Teagan Tao, played by Miku Martineau, a star rower whose life is upended when her father’s financial misdeeds come to light, forcing her and her mom to relocate to the prestigious Easton Prep on the East Coast. Finding no girls’ rowing team at her new school, Teagan becomes the coxswain of the notoriously chaotic boys’ varsity crew, convincing an entire team to trust her leadership while navigating warring rivals, messy romantic entanglements and betrayed friendships that spill drama both in and out of the boat. She also finds herself caught in a love triangle between the arrogant team captain Josh Regis, played by Sam Braun, and the quietly determined local Cam Dillinger, played by Kyle Clark.
Thomas Cadrot plays Coach Matt Hayden, the coach who gives Teagan her shot when no girls’ team exists. Jude Wilson plays Bronson “Baloo” Garner alongside Jessica Paré as Teagan’s mom Ella.
Created by Vivian Lin, who also serves as writer, showrunner and executive producer, Crew Girl was developed for television by Lin and Morwyn Brebner. The series is produced by Great Pacific Media and Thunderbird Entertainment. Simon Barry, creator of Netflix’s Bet, which also stars Martineau, directs the pilot episode. Jeff Norton, Lindsay Macadam, Hillary Zwick Turner, Tony Chung and Lori Massini also executive produce.
Crew Girl premieres September 10 on Netflix.
