Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Green are not exactly couple goals in the first trailer for Just Play Dead, the tropical action thriller from Casino Royale director Martin Campbell. The film hits select theaters August 28 and arrives on-demand September 1.
Jackson plays Jack Wolfe, a wealthy criminal mastermind cornered by the feds who hatches a plan to fake his own death, claim a $30 million insurance payout and frame his wife’s surfer lover Chad in the process. Green plays Nora, his wife who has her own ideas once she realizes what is on the table. Rather than go along with the scheme, Nora decides to kill Jack for real, frame Chad and keep the fortune for herself. Jack, always a step ahead, sets a deadly trap and turns the unsuspecting lovers against each other. When the feds get involved and Nora seduces the detective on the case, the game of cat and mouse gets considerably more complicated.
“You know what they say,” Jackson’s Jack quips in the trailer. “Three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead.”
The film also stars Eoin Macken, María Pedraza and Jason Fernández as Chad. Written by Dan Gordon, known for The Hurricane and Murder in the First, Just Play Dead marks the second collaboration between Jackson and Green following the 2016 film Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
Jackson also executive produces alongside Valentin Dimitrov, Sagiv Diamant, Phil Hunt, Mario Reinach and Moshe Diamant producing.
