Damson Idris and Brad Pitt Bring the Heat in High-Octane F1 Racing Drama [TRAILER]

Damson Idris and Brad Pitt are racing toward the finish line in the first teaser for F1, Apple Original Films’ adrenaline-fueled Formula 1 drama. Directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, the film is set to debut in theaters and IMAX on June 27. The teaser, which dropped during Super Bowl Sunday, offers an intense glimpse of what’s to come—complete with high-speed racing, tense confrontations, and a steamy scene.

Idris plays rookie driver Joshua Pearce, while Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a retired Formula 1 champion pulled back into the racing world by a struggling team owner (Javier Bardem). Hayes returns to mentor Pearce as the team battles against the sport’s top competitors. The film stands out for its realism, having been shot during actual Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends to immerse viewers in the thrill of live racing.

The teaser is a visual spectacle, with roaring engines, dramatic race sequences, and tension that builds off the track. While dialogue is absent from the teaser, it’s clear the film will deliver intense action and emotional moments. One striking scene shows Idris and Pitt behind the wheel, locked in fierce competition, while the teaser cuts to glimpses of an intimate scene that hints at deeper stakes beyond racing.

Idris reflected on working with Brad Pitt and the surreal experience of joining the cast of F1. “I look around, and it’s Brad Pitt to my left and Javier Bardem to my right. My hands were shaking on day one,” he shared with Vanity Fair. Idris also praised Pitt’s unexpected driving talent. “He’s really good. Too good. It made me nervous how fast he picked it up,” Idris admitted.

Joseph Kosinski, known for pushing the boundaries of practical filmmaking, brings his signature style to F1. The film was shot at real Formula 1 events, capturing live racing scenes that few films have attempted. Kosinski previously told Deadline, “We’ve got Brad and Damson driving real F1 cars, racing in front of a live audience at those speeds. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done before.”

In addition to Pitt and Idris, F1 boasts a stellar supporting cast, including Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo, and Javier Bardem. Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton also serves as a producer, ensuring the film stays authentic to the sport’s culture and competitive spirit.

With high-speed action, drama, and unexpected twists, F1 promises to be a gripping ride. Catch it in theaters and IMAX starting June 27.
