Deadline reports Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen will join Jason Momoa in the Warner Bros and Legendary Minecraft movie. Directed by Jared Hess, known for hits like Nacho Libre and Napoleon Dynamite, this star-studded cast is gearing up for a fresh take on the beloved computer game.

Brooks is set to step into the role of Dawn, while Hansen will bring Henry to life. The production is set to begin by the end of the month in New Zealand and will hit theaters April 4, 2025.

Details on Minecraft’s writing credits and plot remain undisclosed. The film involves Vertigo, Legendary, Mojang/Microsoft, and Momoa’s On the Roam. Producers include Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick. Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jonathan Spaihts serve as executive producers.

Warner Bros. has been on a mission to bring the live-action Minecraft movie to life since 2014, overcoming multiple shifts in directors and writers before settling on Hess and Allison Schroeder, known for Hidden Figures and Frozen 2. The release date dance has seen Minecraft move from 2019 to 2022 and now firmly set for April 4, 2025.

With almost a decade of development, Minecraft should ride on the success of video game adaptations like the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Sonic, and Uncharted as the genre is experiencing a noteworthy resurgence.

Notably, Minecraft, boasting a staggering 230 million copies sold on all platforms, holds the title of the most popular game ever.
