In The Height’s Dascha Polanco is set to co-lead opposite Shanola Hampton in NBC pilot Dangerous Minds.
The pilot comes from Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The pilot is based on the Spanish version Señoras del (h)Ampa. Janine Sherman Barrois is writing and executive producing the dark dramedy about four diverse mothers who accidentally kill the queen bee of their school’s PTA during the demonstration of a new high-end food processor. The story becomes a female anthem about friendship and family as it tells the story of one completely unprepared group of women who must juggle their everyday lives while their worlds are turned upside down.
Polanco will play Pia, the impeccable nemesis of Monique Wallace (Hampton). Pia is the No. 1 salesperson for the state-of-the-art TurboThunder3000 food processor and a popular mommy blogger. She also is the landlord of a few apartment buildings in the community, which she hopes to gentrify.

The original series, Señoras del (h)AMPA, was created, written and directed by Carlos del Hoyo and Abril Zamora. The first season aired on Telecinco in 2019, yet the first part of the second season was released exclusively by Amazon Prime Video.
The Dangerous Minds pilot comes on the heels of Hampton signing a talent holding deal with NBCU Television and Streaming and Universal Television. The pact calls for Hampton to collaborate with Universal Television to develop and star in scripted studio projects for NBCU’s television and streaming platforms, including NBC, Peacock, USA and Syfy.

Polanco starred as Dayanara Diaz in Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black. She is currently starring in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award–winning musical In the Heights. Up next she wills tar in the upcoming MGM superhero thriller film Samaritan and will make her leading film role debut in Adrian Martinez’s indie dark comedy iGilbert.
