Audible has unveiled the full cast for its ambitious global adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 gothic horror classic Dracula, producing the audiobook simultaneously in seven languages with all-star local casts for each version.
Jonathan Bailey leads the English-language production as Count Dracula, joined by Ella Purnell as Mina, Aimee Lou Wood as Lucy, Louis Partridge as Jonathan Harker, David Jonsson as Dr. Seward, Lesley Manville as Mrs. Westenra, Johnny Flynn as Renfield, Francis Lovehall as Arthur and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Professor Van Helsing.
For the international versions, each language production has its own Dracula and Mina. Omar Sy and Deva Cassel lead the French version. Riccardo Scamarcio and Benedetta Porcaroli lead the Italian. Matthias Schweighöfer and Jeanne Goursaud lead the German. Asier Etxeandia and Claudia Salas lead the Castilian Spanish. And José María de Tavira and Esmeralda Pimentel lead the Latin American Spanish version.
The official synopsis centers on Mina rather than Dracula himself. When her fiancé vanishes in Transylvania, Mina pieces together fragments of letters, diary entries and chilling testimony to hunt the predator stalking those she loves, only to discover he is already hunting her. It is Mina, with her intellect and her gift for drawing unseen lines between clues, who may hold the key to stopping this ancient predator.
Cult horror director Mary Lambert, known for Pet Sematary, makes her audiobook directing debut on the production, adapted by Robyn Ahern. Composer Ilan Eshkeri, who previously worked with Audible on 1984, has written the score.
Dracula launches on Audible on October 1 in English, French, Italian, Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish. The German version follows February 9, 2027. The Brazilian Portuguese version has yet to be dated.
