Denzel Washington and Danai Gurira are taking Here Comes the Flood into 2027.
Netflix’s upcoming heist thriller, starring Washington and Gurira alongside Robert Pattinson, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sean Harris, is now expected to release in 2027 rather than this year.
Directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Two Popes) and written by Simon Kinberg, Here Comes the Floodfollows a bank guard, a teller and a master thief caught in a dangerous game of cons and double-crosses. The story is told through a nonlinear narrative.
Production on the film took place in New Jersey through late January, leaving a relatively tight window for post-production. With Netflix already carrying a packed slate for the remainder of 2026, the film is now expected to make its debut next year.
Here Comes the Flood joins a growing list of highly anticipated films shifting into 2027.
Netflix’s Saturn Return, Greg Kwedar’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Sing Sing, is also expected to arrive next year. The Chicago-set romance stars Charles Melton, Rachel Brosnahan and Will Poulter and follows three college friends across two timelines.
A24 has several projects also expected to move into 2027, including The Riders, directed by Edward Berger and starring Brad Pitt, Julianne Nicholson, Danny Huston and Camille Cottin.
The distributor’s The Entertainment System Is Down, from two-time Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund, is also expected next year. The satirical ensemble stars Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun and Samantha Morton as passengers forced to confront boredom when the entertainment system fails during a long-haul flight.
Two other major films are still looking for distributors: Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven, starring Nicholas Hoult, Colin Firth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Adele in her acting debut, and Joel Coen’s Jack of Spades, starring Josh O’Connor, Frances McDormand, Lesley Manville and Damian Lewis.
Meanwhile, some 2027 releases are already officially dated. Chloe Domont’s A Place in Hell, starring Michelle Williams, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Andrew Scott, is set for April 23, 2027.
Gina Prince-Bythewood’s highly anticipated Children of Blood and Bone is also scheduled for January 15, 2027. The Paramount fantasy adaptation stars Thuso Mbedu, Damson Idris, Amandla Stenberg, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.
For now, audiences will have to wait a little longer to see Washington and Gurira go head-to-head in Here Comes the Flood.
