‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’: Brandy and Paolo Montalban Return for ‘Descendants’ Next Installment

Brandy and Paolo Montalban are reuniting once again as Cinderella and King Charming in Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth film in Disney’s hit Descendants franchise. Production is already underway, with the film set to premiere in 2025 on both Disney Channel and Disney+.

The pair originally stole hearts in the 1997 television classic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and decades later, brought that legacy to a new generation in Descendants: The Rise of Red. Their return in Wicked Wonderland marks another full-circle moment in Disney’s ongoing celebration of legacy and reinvention.

Also returning is Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts, continuing her bold, scene-stealing portrayal from The Rise of Red. She joins Brandy, Montalban, and franchise mainstay Melanie Paxson, who reprises her role as Fairy Godmother—making her the only actor to appear in all five Descendants movies. Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker are also back in their lead roles as Princesses Red and Chloe, the daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella.

A New Adventure in Wonderland

Set primarily in a vibrant, present-day Wonderland, Wicked Wonderland picks up shortly after the events of The Rise of Red. As Red and Chloe return from their time-traveling adventure, they’re faced with the fallout of rewriting the past. The film will explore what “happily ever after” really means when the balance of time has been disrupted—and the consequences start to ripple through their world.

Meet the Next Generation

Joining the cast are several new descendants of iconic Disney characters:

  • Liamani Segura as Pink, Red’s younger sister
  • Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, son of Maddox Hatter
  • Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, son of Luisa from Encanto
  • Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, daughter of Captain Hook
  • Joel Oulette as Robbie, son of Robin Hood
  • Zavien Garrett as Felix, son of Dr. Facilier
  • Ryan McEwen and Dayton Paradis as Squirmy and Squeaky, twin sons of Smee
  • Leonardo Nam returns as Maddox Hatter, son of the Mad Hatter

Creative Team and Franchise Milestone

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is directed by Kimmy Gatewood (The Baby-Sitters Club) with a script by co-executive producer Tamara Chestna (Sneakerella) and writing team Dan Frey and Ru Sommer (Descendants: The Rise of Red). Franchise veterans Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return as executive producers, with Gatewood also serving as co-producer.

The film arrives during a milestone moment for the franchise, as Descendants celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025. Since its 2015 debut, the series has become a cornerstone of Disney’s kids and family entertainment, with each of the first three movies ranking as the most-watched cable films of their year. The fourth film, The Rise of Red, premiered in 2024 and became the most-watched original streaming movie among Kids and Girls 6–11, racking up over 10 billion social impressions.

With Brandy, Paolo Montalban, and Rita Ora at the helm, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is set to be a magical return to familiar royalty—this time, with even higher stakes and a Wonderland twist.
