The trailer kicks off where the 2021 revival Dexter: New Blood ends with original Dexter actor Michael C. Hall laying in a pool of blood. Hall who will narrate the prequel series, narrates the beginning of the trailer saying, “it’s true what they say your life flashes before your eyes.” The 10-episode series rewinds to 1991 Miami, where a young Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson, grapples with his emerging dark urges. Under the guidance of his adoptive father, Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter begins honing his “code”—a moral framework to direct his violent tendencies toward those who deserve it. Meanwhile, his internship at Miami Metro Police Department foreshadows the dual life he’s destined to lead.

Clyde Phillips, the creator of the original Dexter series, returns as showrunner, ensuring continuity while introducing a fresh perspective. The cast includes Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, and Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka. Patrick Dempsey steps in as Captain Aaron Spencer, with Sarah Michelle Gellar making a special guest appearance as Tanya Martin.

Additional recurring roles are filled by Aaron Jennings, Raquel Justice, Joe Pantoliano, Brittany Allen, Randy Gonzalez, Jasper Lewis, Carlo Mendez, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi, and Roberto Sanchez. Notable character arcs include Pantoliano as Mad Dog, Allen as Dexter’s biological mother, Laura Moser, and Gonzalez as Santos Jimenez.

The trailer immerses viewers in a vibrant 1990s Miami, complete with retro fashion, iconic music, and nostalgic aesthetics. Patrick Dempsey’s mustache alone is a time capsule, hinting at the show’s dedication to capturing the era’s essence.

Dexter: Original Sin is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios, with Clyde Phillips, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns as executive producers. Michael Lehmann serves as directing executive producer, and Robert Lloyd Lewis produces. Paramount Global Content Distribution handles international distribution.

The original Dexter series debuted in 2006 and captivated audiences for eight seasons as Michael C. Hall brought to life the complex character of Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter analyst and vigilante serial killer. Showtime’s 2021 revival, Dexter: New Blood, explored Dexter’s later years, including his strained relationship with his son, Harrison.

Now, Dexter: Original Sin takes audiences back to where it all began, exploring the origins of TV’s most iconic antihero. Watch the trailer above and prepare to step into Dexter’s world on December 13.
