The independent feature film stars Amin Joseph (Snowfall, Justified), Krista Marie Yu (Dr. Ken, Last Man Standing), Sydney Lavette, and the late Cedric Jones. Supporting cast members include Crystal Lee Brown, Billy “Sly” Williams, Tiwana Floyd, and Rob Chester Smith.

Co-directed by Nikai and David Lassiter, The Other, Gold follows Farrah Henry (Sharaé Nikai), a Black TV writer grappling with profound grief and the isolation of a prolonged pandemic. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Little Tokyo, Farrah’s journey unfolds as she attempts to reconnect with an estranged best friend, exploring themes of healing, resilience, and the rediscovery of self-worth. With a mix of humor, raw emotion, and the comfort of shared meals, this dramedy captures the complexities of friendship, loss, and the transformative power of human connection. Sometimes, an old friend and a warm bowl of ramen truly are as good as gold.

The film earned its spot as one of only ten selections in the U.S. Narrative Competition at the Tribeca Film Festival, a distinction achieved from over 13,000 submissions. Its universal themes and deeply personal storytelling have positioned the film and its creators as strong contenders for several accolades, including Spirit and Academy Awards. Nikai and Lassiter are also being recognized for Film Independent’s Someone to Watch Award and the John Cassavetes Award.

In a statement, Nikai expressed her excitement about bringing the screenings to Atlanta, sharing, “David and I chose ATL for this historic experience because we both have deep family roots and loving friendships in the state of Georgia. As one of few Academy Award-eligible films starring and made by Black creatives with no studio backing, we recognize Atlanta as a mecca of African-American artistry, culture, and entrepreneurship. This makes it the best city in the U.S. for our film to qualify for the 2025 Academy Awards. Every ticket purchase and ounce of love counts!”

The Tara Theater, located at 2345 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324, will host the screenings, including Q&A panels with Nikai and Lassiter following select showings on December 6 (7 PM), December 7 (8 PM), and December 8 (3:45 PM). Tickets are available now at The Tara Atlanta website.
