The TARDIS is about to take flight once again. Disney Branded Television and the BBC have officially announced that season two of Doctor Who will premiere on Saturday, APRIL 12. Episodes will air weekly, dropping at 12:00 a.m. PDT / 3:00 a.m. EDT on Disney+ in international markets, while UK viewers can catch it exclusively on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Leading this season’s adventures is Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, joined by Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday and newcomer Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra. The show is also bringing in an exciting lineup of guest stars, including Rose Ayling-Ellis, Christopher Chung, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, and Susan Twist.
One of the most thrilling additions to the season is Alan Cumming (The Traitors), who guest stars in episode two as Mr. Ring-a-Ding, a happy-go-lucky, singalong cartoon living in Sunny Town. But in a classic Doctor Who twist, things take a sinister turn when, after years of entertaining audiences in 1952 cinema shorts, Mr. Ring-a-Ding becomes aware of the real world beyond the screen—and the fallout is terrifying.
Showrunner Russell T Davies is beyond excited about Cumming’s return to the Whoniverse, saying, “Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger, and fun. He makes the whole universe of ‘Doctor Who’ wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honor to welcome him on board the TARDIS.”
This season will see the Doctor and Belinda embark on an epic journey to get her back to Earth. However, something—or someone—is blocking their return, forcing them to face bigger enemies, greater dangers, and mind-bending threats unlike anything they’ve encountered before.
Behind the scenes, Doctor Who is in the hands of a powerhouse team. Russell T Davies returns as showrunner alongside executive producers Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. The series is produced by Bad Wolf in collaboration with BBC Studios, Disney Branded Television, and BBC One.
Mark your calendars, set your alarms, and get ready—because Doctor Who is back, and from the looks of it, this season is about to get wilder than ever.
