Fox is all in on Doc. The breakout medical drama, starring Molly Parker, just landed an early renewal with a full 22-episode order—a rarity in today’s TV landscape, where most seasons max out at 13-18 episodes. The last Fox drama to get a season this big? The Resident back in 2021.
What makes this even more surprising? Doc is a midseason show, meaning it only had 10 episodes to prove itself. Networks usually play it safe with shorter renewals for these, but Doc came in hot and made a strong case for itself.
Doc follows Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker), a top-tier physician who returns to work after a brain injury wipes out eight years of her memory—blending medical drama with mystery and romance. The show also stars Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, and Anya Banerjee, with Scott Wolf and Patrick Walker recurring.
Since its premiere, Doc has pulled in over 16 million viewers across platforms, making it Fox’s biggest series debut in over five years (9-1-1: Lone Star held the previous record). Even more impressive? It’s one of only two new broadcast shows this season to grow in both 18-49 and total viewers in its second week.
The momentum isn’t slowing down either—last Tuesday’s episode hit a series high in the key demo.
After a wave of cancellations (The Resident, The Good Doctor, New Amsterdam), medical dramas are back in business. This midseason alone, four launched, and Doc is already leading the pack. It joins The Pitt (Max) with an early renewal, while CBS’ Watson is looking strong for a second season.
Fox execs are calling this an easy decision, with Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn praising the show’s emotional depth and audience connection.
The final two episodes of Season 1 air in March, with the finale dropping March 18.
Doc airs Tuesdays at 9 PM on Fox, streaming next-day on Hulu.
