Don Cheadle is stepping into a gritty new role for the action-thriller Canyon, a film blending jazz, crime, and chaos. Written by John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, the story unfolds over one intense night, with Cheadle playing the titular Canyon—a jazz musician by day and serial killer by night. When Canyon unexpectedly becomes the protector of a young singer, he’s thrust into a deadly turf war between two feuding crime families.
The role of the young singer has yet to be cast, but the project is already drawing attention for its creative team. Music video veteran Colin Tilley is set to direct. Known for his visually stunning work with Megan Thee Stallion, Justin Bieber, and Halsey, Tilley made his feature debut with the horror film Eye for an Eye.
The film brings together a powerhouse production team, with Kolstad, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, and Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and Jeremy Stein producing. Cheadle will also produce through his company, This Radicle Act, alongside Karyn Smith-Forge.
Cheadle’s career continues to push boundaries, from his Oscar-nominated performance in Hotel Rwanda to his role as Rhodey/War Machine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Secret Invasion. This latest project promises to be another standout for the acclaimed actor.
With its mix of suspense, music, and high-stakes drama, Canyon is shaping up to be a must-watch. Stay tuned as more casting details are revealed and production gets underway.
