Donald Glover to Star in and Produce Sony/Marvel Film Centered on Spider-Man Villain Hypno-Hustler

Donald Glover is set to star in and produce a new Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man universe film based on the villainous Hypno-Hustler.

Per Marvel’s style details on the untitled film are under wraps. The film is still in very early development with no script or director, but Myles Murphy (the son of Eddie Murphy) is attached to write the screenplay.

The Hypno-Hustler first appeared in Marvel comics, the Spectacular Spider-Man #24, in 1978 and is one of Spider-Man’s lesser known villains. Bill Mantlo and Frank Springer created the character who Hustler has the ability to hypnotize his victims with his guitar. By day, he’s known as Antoine Desloin, lead singer of a band called the Mercy Killers. And Deslain uses their music to rob their audiences.

This won’t be Glover’s first intro into the Spider-verse. The rapper/actor first appeared in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales —- the Black teenager introduced in Marvel comics in 2011 who eventually becomes Spider-Man. Glover also voiced Miles in the 2015 Disney XD series “Ultimate Spider-Man.”

The multi-hyphenate recently wrapped up Atlanta — the acclaimed comedy-drama series he created, wrote, directed, exec produced and starred in for FX — and will next be seen in projects including a Mr. & Mrs. Smith series for Prime Video.
