MGM+ has just dropped the trailer and announced the premiere date for its highly anticipated series “Emperor of Ocean Park,” from John Wells and Sherman Payne. Set to premiere on July 14, the series is a blend of politics, elite academia, and the serene beaches of Martha’s Vineyard.
Joining previously cast are NAACP Image Award winner Keith Powers, Deanna Reed-Foster, Kelli Simpkins, and Keith Kupferer. These new additions will enhance a cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Grantham Coleman, Tiffany Mack, and Paulina Lule.
“Emperor of Ocean Park” follows the life of Talcott Garland (played by Grantham Coleman), a respected law professor whose world is upended when his father, Judge Oliver Garland, dies under mysterious circumstances. Tal’s sister, Mariah, a former journalist with a penchant for conspiracy theories, suspects foul play in their father’s death, igniting a compelling narrative filled with intrigue and suspense.
Henry Simmons, Bryan Greenberg, Torrey Hanson, Ora Jones and Jasmine Batchelor are set to recur in the new MGM+ series. Zak Black and Dyllan Yelverton round out the cast.
Keith Powers, known for his roles in “The Perfect Find,” “The Tomorrow War,” and “The Uglies,” will guest star as Lionel “Nasty Nel” Eldridge, an ex-NBA star turned law student. Eldridge stands out with his imposing presence and seeks mentorship from Tal as he navigates his new academic life.
Deanna Reed-Foster, recognized for her performances in “The Shining Girls” and “Chicago Fire,” will portray Sally Garland, aka Cousin Sally. A single woman who lights up every room she enters, Sally battles her own demons, struggling with loneliness and a need for familial approval.
Kelli Simpkins, of “American Rust” and “61st Street” fame, takes on the role of Dana Worth, an opinionated and sharp-witted law professor. Worth is a dedicated friend and colleague to Tal, eager to assist as he delves into the mystery surrounding his father’s death.
Keith Kupferer, known for “Ghostlight” and “The Dark Knight,” will guest star as Mallory “Uncle Mal” Corcoran, a powerful lawyer and long-time ally of the Garland family. Uncle Mal’s connections span the political and social elite, making him a formidable figure in the unfolding drama.
