The high-octane world of Formula 1 racing is about to hit the big screen with a thrilling new movie starring Damson Idris and Brad Pitt, titled “F1.”
This Apple Original Films production follows the story of Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver played by Pitt, who makes a dramatic return to the sport. Hayes teams up with rookie driver Joshua Pearce, portrayed by Idris, under the fictional APXGP team. The cast also includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo. Bardem takes on the role of the APXGP team boss.
The film brings authenticity to the screen by shooting at real Formula 1 events, such as last year’s British Grand Prix and the Rolex 24 at Daytona earlier this year.
Fans can catch an exclusive sneak peek of “F1” during the British Grand Prix on July 7, as announced by the official Formula 1 Twitter account. Both Pitt and Idris will be present at the event, where the fictional APXGP team has set up a full hospitality unit in the F1 paddock. According to The Athletic, the actors have even taken the wheel themselves as part of the filming process.
Adding to the film’s credibility, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has been closely involved in the project, including contributions to the script.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski of “Top Gun: Maverick” fame, the film is produced by Pitt, Hamilton for his Dawn Apollo Films, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. The screenplay, penned by Ehren Kruger, was developed in collaboration with Formula 1.
“F1” is set to be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures internationally on June 25, 2025, and in North America on June 27, 2025.
