Filmmaker Jai Harris Completes Mirrored America: Rebirth of a Nation, a Feature Film Made Entirely With Generative AI

Jacqualynn “Jai” Harris has completed Mirrored America: Rebirth of a Nation, a 57-minute vertical 9:16 feature film made entirely with generative artificial intelligence.

Set in the present day, the film opens as a mass deportation order sweeps the nation and a catastrophic solar flare bears down on the planet. As the surface unravels, an ancient civilization that has watched America for four centuries decides the time has come to reveal itself, forcing a country built on erasure to face the people it tried to erase, not with weapons, but with a mirror.

Mirrored America represents the crowning achievement of that body of work. The film spans two complete worlds, a cold surface America and a warm bioluminescent civilization called Inner Space hidden beneath it for four hundred years. It crosses six time periods, features hundreds of characters and was built from more than 800 AI-generated images and more than 300 motion sequences, all directed through original written prompts, a locked visual style bible and reference photography, then fully edited and color corrected by Harris herself in Adobe Premiere Pro. A conventional production of this scale would carry an estimated budget of $25 to $35 million and employ hundreds of crew members. Harris made it out of pocket.

At the heart of the film is a casting choice no studio could manufacture. Three real generations of one family play one bloodline across the story. Ivy at 23 and 43 in the ancient civilization and present-day Carmen were created in Harris’s own likeness. Mercy was created in the likeness of her mother, Socorro Grandville. Young Ivy at 9 and Frances at 9 were created in the likeness of Harris’s daughter, Serene Samuel, who narrates the entire film as young Ivy.

Harris is not a newcomer to AI filmmaking. A WGA member with nearly two decades and more than thirty network productions across MTV, BET, VH1, OWN, WE tv, Bravo, Aspire and Discovery+, she has been among the earliest filmmakers to prove that generative AI cinema could win awards, anchor major festival categories and attract streaming interest. Her AI animated short Serene and the Magic Seeds: Searching for Dr. Sebi has been accepted into seven film festivals and won four awards. Her AI microdrama False Profit$ was an official selection at the 2026 American Black Film Festival and was featured at the Essence Festival. Her AI-crafted microdramas have earned more than four million views on Instagram, and Harris is currently in licensing negotiations with a major streaming network.

“AI is not the point,” Harris said. “The point is that stories the system was never going to finance can finally be told. This film honors the Indigenous peoples of America, brown and Black, especially the Black Native Americans history keeps trying to forget. Now their story exists at feature scale, and no one can unmake it.”

Mirrored America: Rebirth of a Nation is registered with the WGAW Registry and the United States Copyright Office and is currently submitting to major film festivals. Harris founded Free Royalty Studios LLC, an independent production company built on ownership and legacy that develops original film, television, animation and generative AI properties.
