A24 has released the first trailer for Misty Green, the upcoming Hollywood drama written, directed by, and starring Chris Rock ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September.
The film centers on Misty Green (Rosalind Eleazar), a gifted actress whose once-promising Hollywood career has stalled after years of personal and professional setbacks. When a coveted comeback opportunity arrives from filmmaker Jordan (Rock), she’s forced to confront the very past that continues to haunt her.
The trailer wastes no time showing the uphill battle Misty faces. Her agent, played by Topher Grace, admits he can’t even land her a guest role on Law & Order. Jordan reminds her that the last time he cast her, she punched another actress. Meanwhile, Misty insists she’s living life on her own terms, telling a friend, “I wake up when I wanna wake up. I sleep when I wanna sleep. I get high when I wanna get high, and I fuck when I wanna fuck,” prompting Anna Kendrick’s character to fire back, “I didn’t know you were a Lil Wayne song.”
Alongside Eleazar and Rock, Misty Green features an impressive ensemble cast including Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anthony Anderson, Kelli Garner, Amy Landecker and Tracie Thoms.
Misty Green marks Rock’s fourth feature as a director, following Head of State (2003), I Think I Love My Wife (2007), and the critically acclaimed Top Five (2014). He also serves as a producer alongside David Worthen Brooks and Peter Rice, with Miles Alva, Nelson George, Shaum S. Sengupta and Max Henke executive producing.
Misty Green will make its world premiere at TIFF this September before being released by A24.
