Get ready to buckle up for a wild and hilarious ride! Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the first look at the upcoming heist comedy The Pickup, and it’s already giving off major “Bad Boys” vibes, blending old-school and new-wave energy in the best way possible.
Directed by Tim Story, the filmmaker behind The Blackening, Barbershop, and Ride Along, The Pickup unites a stacked cast led by the legendary Eddie Murphy alongside Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer. Rounding out the diverse ensemble are Eva Longoria, Marshawn Lynch, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, Andrew Dice Clay, Jack Kesy, and Ismael Cruz Córdova.
In The Pickup, a routine cash pickup goes haywire when Russell (Eddie Murphy) and Travis (Pete Davidson), two mismatched armored truck drivers, find themselves ambushed by a ruthless crew led by a cunning mastermind, Zoe (Keke Palmer). As their day spirals out of control, the two must survive high-octane action, clashing personalities, and one heist after another—turning an ordinary workday into a battle for survival and an uproarious buddy adventure.
Story’s direction promises the same seamless mix of action and humor that’s made his past films such crowd-pleasers, with Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider’s script laying the groundwork for plenty of surprises. Burrows and Mider, known for their work on The Package and Gentlemen Lobsters, have crafted a story that feels like a throwback to classic buddy comedies with a fresh, modern twist.
Eddie Murphy is producing alongside John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, and Tim Story himself, so you know the laughs are locked in and the bar is set high. Executive producers include Jeremy Stein, Vicky Mara Story, Ross Fanger, Burrows, and Mider.
The Pickup also reunites Murphy and Davis, who previously delivered the critically acclaimed Netflix comedy Dolemite Is My Name. Given Murphy’s recent holiday hit Candy Cane Lane (which dropped last December and soared to Prime Video’s top 10 worldwide film debuts), expectations for The Pickup are sky-high.
And with Pete Davidson, fresh off his stand-up tour and The King of Staten Island acclaim, plus Keke Palmer, who’s been racking up fans since Akeelah and the Bee and more recently wowed in Nope, this film is packing major star power and comedic fire.
The Pickup is set to arrive on Prime Video August 6, 2025, bringing high-stakes heists and hard laughs to your screen. Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready to see Eddie Murphy and crew bring the heat in this uproarious action comedy!
