The seven-episode series, co-starring and created by Will Sharpe, premieres globally Feb. 10, 2027
Ayo Edebiri’s next chapter has a release date. Apple TV unveiled the first look at Prodigies, a romantic comedy series starring Edebiri opposite Will Sharpe, who created, wrote and directed the show. The seven-episode season launches globally on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2027, with two episodes, then rolls out weekly through its March 17 finale.
The premise is built for anyone who was told they were “gifted” as a kid. Edebiri plays Didi and Sharpe plays Ren, two former child prodigies now in their 30s who start questioning the relationship they’ve been in since they were 9. The story moves across London, Tokyo and Virginia as the couple wrestles with whether their ordinary adult lives live up to all that early promise, and the reckoning throws them into a whole new kind of chaos.

Edebiri isn’t just a co-lead here. She’s also an executive producer, which matters. Rom-com leads for Black women have historically been hard to come by in prestige TV, and this puts her at the center of the genre with a creative stake in the project rather than in the best-friend role the genre has long reserved for Black actresses.
The timing also tracks. Prodigies lands at the end of a defining year for Edebiri: she closed out her Emmy-winning run as Sydney Adamu when The Bear wrapped its fifth and final season in June, made her Broadway debut opposite Don Cheadle in the revival of Proof, and heads to theaters Dec. 11 in Neon’s Clarissa, a modern reimagining of Mrs. Dalloway filmed in Nigeria. A Valentine’s week premiere for a rom-com starring one of the most in-demand actors working right now is a clear strategic play, and the two-episode launch followed by weekly drops signals Apple wants the conversation to build over five weeks rather than burn out in a binge weekend.

Sharpe brings serious credentials of his own. The BAFTA and Actor Award winner broke through to wider audiences in Season 2 of The White Lotus and has written acclaimed work including Landscapers and Flowers. He executive produces through his company, Fukuda Films.
The ensemble cast includes John Malkovich, Tobias Menzies, Yumi Asō, Maria Bakalova, Sophia Di Martino, Rina Sawayama, Reece Shearsmith, Dame Meera Syal and Andrene Ward-Hammond.
Prodigies is produced by SISTER Pictures, with Naomi De Pear (This Is Going to Hurt), Katie Carpenter (Waiting for the Out) and Jane Featherstone (Black Doves) executive producing alongside Sharpe and Edebiri.
