Amazon MGM Studios body slammed a first look into ‘Unstoppable,’ a gritty, inspiring wrestling drama based on the life of Anthony Robles. Adapted from the book “Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion” by Robles and Austin Murphy, the film stars Jharrel Jerome, Jennifer Lopez, Don Cheadle, Bobby Cannavale, and Michael Peña.
Jerome takes on the physically demanding role of Robles, a young man born without a right leg who defies all odds to become an NCAA Division I wrestling champion, ultimately winning a national championship against the school that rejected him, national powerhouse Iowa. The film delves into his harrowing childhood, marked by abuse, and his relentless pursuit of a dream that seemed impossible.
Anthony Robles himself is seen in the film and credited as ‘Anthony Robles Double’, performing the complex wrestling moves and stunts. He is also a producer on the film. Jharrel Jerome trained for months and worked very closely with Anthony to establish the physicality and determination required for the role.
Set to world premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, ‘Unstoppable’ will then debut in select theaters across the U.S. and UK this December.
Oscar-winning editor William Goldenberg makes his directorial debut with ‘Unstoppable,’ with Eric Champnella, Alex Harris, and John Hindman penning the screenplay.
The project marks Amazon MGM’s second collaboration with Artists Equity, which boasts Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as producers. Their first, the acclaimed sports marketing drama “Air,” grossed $90 million in theaters worldwide last year before debuting on Prime Video.
Joining Affleck and Damon as producers are Nuyorican Productions’ Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Coonskin Cap’s David Crockett, A Really Good Home Pictures’ Andy Fraser, Gary Lewis, and Robles himself. Executive producers include Artists Equity’s Dani Bernfeld and Michael Joe, alongside Kevin Halloran and Jack Murray.
‘Unstoppable’ is more than just a sports movie; it’s a testament to the human spirit and the power of overcoming adversity.
