First Trailer for ‘Love of Your Life’ Arrives, Spotlighting Margaret Qualley’s Romance With Aaron Pierre and Gabriel Basso

Rachel Morrison’s sophomore directing effort, produced by Ryan Gosling, debuts at TIFF this weekend ahead of an October release.

The first trailer for “Love of Your Life” dropped Wednesday, giving audiences their initial look at Rachel Morrison’s sweeping romantic drama ahead of its Toronto International Film Festival premiere this weekend.

Margaret Qualley leads as Maya, a Boston nurse in her mid-twenties whose life is upended after a devastating loss sends her fleeing the city and eventually the country. The trailer traces her journey from a whirlwind romance with Charlie (Gabriel Basso) through her relocation to Portugal, where she becomes a digital nomad and crosses paths with Felix, played by “Lanterns” star Aaron Pierre.

Pierre’s Felix is positioned as a turning point for Maya, a source of unexpected connection who helps her reopen herself to intimacy after tragedy. The trailer frames the film’s central question around whether a person can have more than one great love in a lifetime, weaving together Maya’s past with Charlie and her budding relationship with Felix. Patrick Schwarzenegger appears as Jason, Maya’s best friend, while Catherine Keener plays her mother-in-law, offering perspective on Maya’s choices throughout the film.

Based on Morrison’s own novel of the same name, the film marks her second directorial feature following 2024’s acclaimed boxing drama “The Fire Inside.” She works from a screenplay by Julia Cox. The project was shot over roughly 40 days across Boston, New Orleans, and Portugal, with Morrison — an Oscar-nominated cinematographer in her own right — operating the camera herself for several key emotional scenes.

The cast also includes Tamara Lawrance and Corey Johnson. Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson produced.

“Love of Your Life” premieres at TIFF on September 13, opens in select theaters on October 7, and begins streaming globally on Prime Video October 14.
