USA Network has released the first trailer for The Rainmaker Season 2, confirming the legal drama returns Friday, October 16 at 10 p.m.
Season 1 ended with Rudy Baylor, played by Milo Callaghan, pulling off a stunning underdog win against Great Benefit and its hospital, securing an $82 million judgment for client Dot Black after her son died from an overdose administered by a serial killer nurse. Rudy’s endgame hinged on putting that nurse on the stand, where he confessed to 15 murders, then calling opposing counsel Leo Drummond himself as a witness, a move that got Leo disqualified and left rookie attorney Sarah Plankmore to close the case alone. Sarah, Rudy’s former law school girlfriend, chose to stay loyal to Tinley Britt over him, even invoking his dead brother in her closing argument. Leo, meanwhile, lost his biggest client and walked into an FBI investigation tied to the murder of a corporate whistleblower, after his associate Brad Noonan was caught wearing a wire and arrested.
The new season picks up from that fallout, with Callaghan back as Rudy alongside Lana Parrilla as Bruiser, P.J. Byrne as Deck, Madison Iseman as Sarah and John Slattery as Leo. Merle Dandridge joined the cast for Season 2 as Amanda Vonn, a cutthroat, intimidating legal expert Bruiser affectionately nicknames “Medusa in Chanel,” whose arrival opens a fresh gateway to power for Sarah. Austin Nichols and Richard Kind also join, with Nichols playing Bruiser’s ex-husband, Tom Cassady.
The trailer centers Rudy’s new case: a letter from Victor Suffredes, a boy sentenced to three years in juvenile detention over a prank, asking Rudy to take his defense. The case pits Rudy against Sarah, now working under Amanda Vonn, in a fight the season frames as having hundreds of children’s futures on the line. A second thread follows Bruiser after Tom shows up at her door claiming he owes dangerous people money, while the trailer also teases whether Deck, encouraged at the end of Season 1 to retake the bar exam, will finally pass it.
The Rainmaker, based on John Grisham’s novel, was one of USA Network’s biggest launches in years, drawing roughly 16 million viewers at its Season 1 premiere and becoming the network’s most-watched new series in years, en route to its renewal in October 2025.
