Starz’s upcoming Black rodeo drama series has rounded out its series regular cast with the additions of Shannon Wallace (Diarra From Detroit, Beauty in Black), Lauren E. Banks (Lawmen: Bass Reeves, City on a Hill), Liv Symone (Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Michael), Curtiss Cook (The Chi, House of Cards) and Jason Dirden (Bosch: Legacy, Power Book III: Raising Kanan).
They join previously announced series regulars DeWanda Wise as Anaya Clarke-Reagan, Tian Richards as Rodney Clarke and Marcus Mitchell as Julius Calhoun.
Set in Southeast Texas, where rodeo isn’t just what you do but who you are, the series centers on three siblings bound by the legacy their mother built and the unfinished business their father left behind. As their own ambitions drive them and pull them into each other’s orbit, alliances shift, relationships tangle and nothing stays private for long. Starz describes the show as infused with hip-hop swagger and country soul.
Wallace will play Sebastian Clarke, a recently divorced former bull-riding champion whose career ended after an arena accident nearly took his life. Charismatic and relentlessly ambitious, he transformed the family rodeo into one of East Texas’ premier regional showcases, but his compulsive risk-taking in business, gambling and love threatens to undermine everything he has built. Cook plays Elias Clarke, the siblings’ estranged father and co-founder of the family rodeo, who returns after a prison stint determined to earn back his children’s trust, even as his motives remain unclear. Banks plays Wynter, Sebastian’s ex-wife and mother and coach to their son Driver, who after building her entire adult life around the Clarke family is finally asking what she wants for herself. Symone plays Jojo Calhoun, the brazen and creative younger sister of Julius, a talented barrel racer who feels ostracized by more traditional rodeo women and is equally determined to become the biggest artist to ever come out of Trinity City. Dirden plays Greg Reagan, a respected District Court judge and Anaya’s husband, whose easygoing charm conceals real steel and a carefully buried past.
Kirk A. Moore is showrunner and executive producer. Mark Johnson and Myki Bajaj of Gran Via Productions and Tony Hernandez, Elise Henderson and Lilly Burns of Counterpart Studios also executive produce. Giovanna Desselle and Christina Jokanovich oversee the series for Starz.
