The cast of The Thomas Crown Affair just got even more stacked.

Amazon MGM Studios’ reimagining of the iconic heist thriller—directed, produced, and headlined by Michael B. Jordan—has added five new names to its ensemble: Danai Gurira, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart.

They’ll join Jordan and Taylor Russell, who lead the film as opposing forces in a romantic, high-stakes game of cat and mouse. Jordan plays a billionaire thrill-seeker with a passion for stealing priceless art. Russell stars as the private investigator determined to bring him down.

Production kicks off this week in London, with an exclusive theatrical release date locked for March 5, 2027.

A Fresh Take on a Classic Heist

This will be the third iteration of The Thomas Crown Affair. The original 1968 film starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, while the stylish 1999 remake featured Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Now, Jordan is stepping behind the camera for his second directorial effort following Creed III, bringing a sleek, global spin to the franchise.

Unlike previous versions, which centered around bank and museum heists in the U.S., this new version will unfold across Europe—while keeping the art theft core alive.

Gurira reunites with Jordan for the first time since Black Panther, this time playing his character’s trusted confidante. Branagh joins in a villainous role, while Gladstone’s part remains tightly under wraps. Hart and Asbæk round out the new additions as rising talent in the film’s growing ensemble.

The chemistry between Jordan and Russell will be key, as the film leans into the seductive tension between a mastermind and the investigator hot on his trail.

A-List Team Behind the Scenes

Jordan produces the film through his Outlier Society banner, alongside Elizabeth Raposo and Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment (Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight). Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff also produce, with The Thomas Crown Affair’s original 1968 screenwriter, Alan Trustman, serving as executive producer.

Drew Pearce (Hotel Artemis) wrote the latest script, following an earlier draft by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson. Acclaimed cinematographer Bradford Young (Selma, Arrival, A Most Violent Year) is onboard as director of photography, marking a return to feature work for the visually dynamic DP.

What to Expect

This version of The Thomas Crown Affair is being positioned as a star-driven, romantic thriller with high-stakes heists, a globetrotting backdrop, and grounded performances. It’s also a showcase of rising and established talent, with Jordan’s creative vision steering the ship.

Danai Gurira continues to expand her screen presence following The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, and will soon appear opposite John Cena in Apple TV+’s Matchbox. Gladstone, still riding the wave of her Killers of the Flower Moon acclaim, brings quiet power to every role. Branagh, an Oscar winner for Belfast, adds gravitas and menace to the lineup.

Expect more updates as production continues, but one thing is certain: The Thomas Crown Affair is shaping up to be anything but your typical remake.
