In a landmark collaboration, (FUBU) For Us By Us Network has teamed up with Telecast Media Group and The Redwing Group to bring the Inaugural Hip Hop Awards & Festival Weekend to Memphis. Taking place August 14–17, the event will highlight hip hop culture’s influence on music, fashion, film, business, and social justice.
J. Alexander Martin, co-founder of (FUBU) For Us By Us, expressed the vision behind the event. “FUBU was founded with the mission of creating content with authenticity, representing hip hop culture. Memphis, with its rich cultural history, aligns perfectly with FUBU and our mantra of ‘for us, by us.’ This collaboration reflects our commitment to honoring the hip hop legacy while fostering new opportunities for growth and recognition.”
The awards weekend will culminate in a ceremony at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts, with organizers estimating an economic impact of $30 to $50 million for the city. Martin also emphasized the broader goal of the event, stating, “This event is more than just a celebration. It’s about recognizing trailblazers in music, media, fashion, and social justice. We look forward to making this an annual tradition that uplifts and unites the community for years to come.”
Memphis Mayor Paul Young highlighted the natural synergy between the city and FUBU during the press conference. “As America’s largest majority Black city, Memphis’ connection with FUBU feels natural. This partnership will celebrate our creative culture while opening doors for future collaborations that strengthen the city’s legacy in music, art, and business.”
Roberto “Rush” Evans, co-CEO of (FUBU) For Us By Us, expanded on the focus of the awards. “We wanted to honor the people in the business of hip hop culture—the influencers, designers, and entrepreneurs who built the commerce and culture we all thrive in today,” he said.
Mike Dockery, CEO of Telecast Media Group, reflected on his journey to bring national recognition to Memphis. “Four years ago, I had a dream to bring natural exposure to our city through entertainment. This partnership with FUBU is proof of what persistence can achieve,” Dockery shared.
Ron Redwing, CEO of The Redwing Group, echoed the sentiment, adding, “Memphis is a special place with a vibrant culture. Hosting this event honors our musical legacy while positioning us for future growth as an entertainment destination.”
The (FUBU) For Us By Us Hip Hop Awards & Festival Weekend promises to unite the community while elevating Memphis as a key player in urban entertainment. With plans to make it an annual tradition, the event is set to celebrate hip hop’s innovators and influencers while fostering economic and cultural growth.
