‘Forever’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix Following Strong Debut

Netflix isn’t done telling Keisha and Justin’s story.

The streaming platform has officially renewed Forever for a second season following its May 8 premiere, which debuted strong—landing in Netflix’s Top 10 with 3.7 million views in just four days.

Created by Mara Brock Akil, Forever is a modern-day reimagining of Judy Blume’s 1975 novel that centers two Black teens—Keisha Clark and Justin Edwards—navigating the emotional rollercoaster of first love in Los Angeles circa 2018. But it’s more than a romance. It’s an honest coming-of-age story about what it means to be seen, to be vulnerable, and to grow in your identity while still trying to hold onto someone else.

Starring Lovie Simone as Keisha and Michael Cooper Jr. as Justin, the series has been praised for blending raw emotion with a contemporary lens—one that speaks directly to today’s youth without watering anything down.

The ensemble cast also includes Karen Pittman, Wood Harris, Xosha Roquemore, Marvin Winans III, Niles Fitch, Barry Shabaka Henley, Ali Gallo, Adriyan Rae, Paigion Walker, Xavier Mills, E’myri Crutchfield, and Yusef Thomas.

Akil serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Judy Blume, Susie Fitzgerald, Erika Harrison, Sara White, Regina King, Reina King, Shana C. Waterman, and Anthony Hemingway.

In a statement following the renewal, Akil said:
“This show was never just about first love—it was about being seen. About letting teenagers be soft, complicated, and real. And the world showed up for that. Season 2 is our love letter back to the people who said, ‘Yes, this is for me.’ We’re honored, we’re excited, and we’re ready to go even deeper. Thank you to Netflix—Season 2 coming soon!”

No release date has been set for Season 2 just yet, but with its creators and cast locked in and the love from its growing audience, Forever is ready to keep the conversation going. Season 1 is now streaming exclusively on Netflix.
