Although Freeform underwent a recent leadership change, with Tara Duncan stepping down from her duties to focus on Onyx Collective and Simran Sethi taking charge of the network, the decision to end the show was reportedly a creative one and not impacted by the change in leadership.

Grown-ish, a spinoff of ABC’s Black-ish, premiered in 2018 and followed the college experiences of Yara Shahidi’s character Zoey. The show’s fifth season saw Marcus Scribner take over the lead role as Zoey’s younger brother Junior, who begins his college journey at Cal U.

Throughout the series, Grown-ish has become a fan favorite, and its creators have always been willing to address important issues affecting young people, including mental health, relationships, and social justice.

Creator and executive producer Kenya Barris expressed his pride in the show’s achievements and the cast’s growth over the years. “To be able to watch Yara, Marcus and our entire Grown-ish family grow up in front of (and in many ways alongside) us over these past several years has been both a joy and an honor,” he said in a statement.

The show has also been a platform for upcoming talents like Trevor Jackson, Diggy Simmons, and Daniella Perkins, who have all starred in the series and made a significant impact on the show’s success.

ABC Signature produces Grown-ish, with a team of executive producers including Kenya Barris, Craig Doyle, Yara Shahidi, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland, E. Brian Dobbins, and Michael Petok. Doyle will take over as the showrunner for the final season,
