Gabourey Sidibe Stars in Lifetime’s ‘Give Me Back My Daughter’— Kelley Kali to Direct

Gabourey Sidibe is stepping into a powerful new role in Give Me Back My Daughter, Lifetime’s latest original movie that puts a mother’s love and resilience to the test. The Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee and NAACP Image Award winner leads the emotional drama, set to premiere Saturday, April 5, at 8p/7c on Lifetime.

The film is directed by Kelley Kali (Kemba) and written by Xavier Burgin (The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster). Joining Sidibe in the cast are Cadence Reese, Walnette Santiago (P-Valley), Sean Anthony Baker (Swagger), and Myles Truitt (Black Lightning, BMF), rounding out a solid ensemble.

Sidibe stars as Renee, a struggling single mother who finds herself in an impossible situation. After losing her job, Renee and her young daughter, Imani (Reese), are evicted and left homeless. Determined to stand on her own, she refuses public assistance—but when she leaves Imani in the car during a job interview, everything unravels. Renee is arrested, and Child Protective Services takes her daughter. What follows is a gut-wrenching fight to reunite with Imani as Renee battles the family court system and comes to realize she doesn’t have to do it all alone.

Produced by Swirl Films for Lifetime, the project is backed by executive producers Leslie Greif, Jason Egenberg, Eric Tomosunas, and Ron Robinson.

With a gripping storyline, a powerhouse director in Kali, and a cast led by Sidibe, Give Me Back My Daughter is set to be an emotional ride. Mark your calendars for april 5—you won’t want to miss this one.
