Gabrielle Union and Yasha Jackson are set to star alongside Emma Roberts in the upcoming Prime Video comedy “Space Cadet.” The recently released trailer showcases Roberts as Tiffany “Rex” Simpson, a young woman with aspirations of becoming an astronaut. Despite her lack of qualifications, Rex manages to secure a spot in NASA’s elite astronaut training program through a faked application.
In this comedic romp, reminiscent of “Legally Blonde” in space, Rex must navigate the rigorous demands of astronaut training while keeping her fraudulent entry under wraps. As the tagline cheekily puts it, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for a Florida party girl.”
The official synopsis reveals that Rex, a fun-loving party girl from Florida, has always dreamed of venturing into space. With some creative help from her best friend Nadine, played by Poppy Liu, she submits a doctored application to NASA. Despite being out of her depth, Rex’s quick thinking and determination catch the attention of NASA directors Pam (Gabrielle Union) and Logan (Tom Hopper). The film will explore whether Rex can successfully complete her training and make it to space before her secret is discovered.
Directed and written by Liz W. Garcia, known for her work on “Purple Hearts” and “The Sinner,” “Space Cadet” is described as a comedy celebrating authenticity, ambition, and reaching for the stars. Outside of Jackson, the film also stars Colombian pop star Sebastián Yatra, comedian Dave Foley, Desi Lydic, Kuhoo Verma, Andrew Call, Troy Iwata, and Josephine Huang.
The film is set to premiere globally on Prime Video on July 4. Check out the trailer to get a sneak peek at this lighthearted space adventure.
