Lifetime has dropped the trailer for Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story, one of two gripping true-crime dramas set to kick off the new year.
The chilling Girl in the Garage: The Laura Cowan Story, starring Paige Hurd, Brad James, and Stephen Bishop, premieres on January 18. Based on real-life events, the film tells the harrowing story of Laura Cowan, a mother facing unimaginable abuse and captivity. After her husband Shabazz (James) is arrested, Laura accepts help from family friend Musa (Bishop), who offers her and her children temporary shelter. However, what starts as an act of kindness quickly turns into a nightmare. Subjected to relentless mental and physical abuse, Laura and her children are held captive in a garage under brutal conditions. Through unimaginable resilience, Laura manages to send a note to the outside world, leading to her rescue.
Directed by Manu Boyer and written by Avery O. Williams, the film features Laura Cowan herself as a co-producer with Shanice Knowles, Tracey Rooney, Maresha Robinson, Diego J. Torres, Jazzanae Sherman, Kaiden Nicholas Johnson, Jackson Little, and Sanaa Sade Salaam rounding out the cast.
This release is part of Lifetime’s popular ‘Ripped from the Headlines’ series, which will also feature Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story on january 11. Starring Dascha Polanco, this intense drama follows Marcela Borges as her Florida home is invaded by armed intruders during a family weekend. The attackers demand $200,000, forcing Marcela, newly pregnant, to make life-or-death decisions to protect her family. Directed by Felipe Rodriguez and written by Crystal Verge, the film is produced by Cineflix Productions, with Jeff Vanderwal serving as executive producer.
Both films spotlight powerful portrayals of survival and resilience, promising a dramatic start to Lifetime’s 2025 lineup.
