Gloria Reuben is stepping back into the Blue Bloods universe—this time as a series regular
The ER alum has been cast as a series regular in CBS’ upcoming drama Boston Blue, the franchise’s first official spinoff. Reuben joins Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Ernie Hudson, and Maggie Lawson in the high-stakes procedural set to premiere this fall.
In Boston Blue, Wahlberg reprises his role as Detective Danny Reagan, who transfers from the NYPD to the Boston PD. There, he’s partnered with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of one of Boston’s most respected—and complex—law enforcement families.
Reuben will portray Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney and the backbone of the Silver family. A commanding presence both in the courtroom and at home, Mae is a widow still grappling with the trauma of her judge husband’s public murder. Despite the demands of her position, she’s determined to keep her blended family united—no easy task when your household includes a detective daughter (Lena), a stepdaughter who’s the Police Superintendent (Lawson), a rookie cop son, and a father (played by Hudson) who leads one of the city’s most historic Black churches.
Mae is decisive, composed, and always calculating her next move—both professionally and personally. Reuben’s portrayal is expected to bring a sharp, emotionally grounded edge to the character as Boston Blue explores justice through generational, cultural, and political lenses.
Boston Blue is created by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist), who also serve as showrunners and executive producers. Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg executive produce, with Anthony Hemingway (Power, The Wire) directing and EP’ing the pilot. The series will take over Blue Bloods’ longtime 10 PM Friday slot on CBS.
This casting also marks a reunion for Reuben and Martin-Green, who played mother and daughter in the indie drama My Dead Friend Zoe, released earlier this year.
Reuben is no stranger to the Blue Bloods world—she guest-starred in two episodes of the original series in 2021 as an ATF agent. Her other recent work includes Amazon’s limited series The Better Sister opposite Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, and a guest role on CBS’ Elsbeth.
