Glynn Turman to Receive Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Glynn Turman is getting his flowers — and a star to match.

The Emmy-winning actor, director, and cultural icon will be honored with the 2,816th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, July 10 at 11:30 AM PT. The ceremony will take place at 7065 Hollywood Boulevard, where Turman’s star will be dedicated in the category of Motion Pictures — just steps away from the late Sidney Poitier, with whom he shared the stage in his Broadway debut.

Ava DuVernay and Don Cheadle are slated to join emcee Steve Nissen in honoring Turman at the ceremony, which is free and open to the public.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to welcome Glynn Turman with this well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame. “His exceptional talents and dedication to the craft of acting have left an indelible mark on the industry… Glynn’s star will be next to his friend Sidney Poitier’s star, whom he performed with on Broadway in 1959.”

A Career Spanning Seven Decades

From the Broadway stage to prestige television and big-screen dramas, Turman’s résumé reads like a masterclass in longevity and range. At just 12 years old, he made his professional debut in the original Broadway production of A Raisin in the Sun, acting opposite legends Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee.

After graduating from New York’s famed High School of Performing Arts, he sharpened his skills in regional theater before making his way to Los Angeles in the 1970s. There, he became a staple on both the big and small screen — with standout roles in Cooley High, Peyton Place, and the beloved sitcom A Different World.

In 2008, Turman won his first Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in HBO’s In Treatment. He earned a second nomination in the same category in 2019 for How to Get Away with Murder. His accolades also include multiple NAACP Image Awards, an L.A. Film Critics Association Award, and nominations from the Critics Choice Awards, SAG Awards, and Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Far from slowing down, Turman’s credits over in the past decade prove he’s still a force in the industry. He stole scenes as ‘Doctor Senator’ in FX’s Fargo, starred in Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar, and appeared in the ABC limited series Women of the Movement. Horror fans saw him in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and he brought warmth and wisdom to Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians as ‘Chiron’.

On the film side, Turman starred in Ben Affleck’s The Way Back and Kevin Costner’s sweeping Western epic Horizon, he’s also appeared in critically acclaimed titles like Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Rustin, and Tyler Perry’s Straw.

Whether on stage, on screen, or behind the camera, Glynn Turman has spent more than 60 years shaping the entertainment industry — and on July 10, that legacy will be cemented, literally, in Hollywood history.
